Murders plague Ekurhuleni’s Reiger Park
At least five people have been killed in separate incidents in an Ekurhuleni town since the end of October.
A 29-year-old man was stabbed to death in front of Reiger Park Secondary School in Boksburg on Tuesday night.
Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Constable Johannes Msimanga says the man, believed to be a Malawian national, was walking along Leon Ferreira Street when four men approached him.
“He ran away but, unfortunately, his cellphone fell on the ground and he turned back to pick it up.
“While he was bending down, one of the men [allegedly] stabbed him in the left hand and chest,” said Msimanga.
The man died on the scene.
The robber took the cellphone, a bag and a wallet and fled. Police are investigating a case of murder.
On Tuesday, a 50-year-old man was shot multiple times while waiting in a car in Clarence September Street.
According to Reiger Park community medic and chaplain Kevin Koopman, the man had just finished work and went with a colleague to the co-worker’s mother’s house as the colleague needed to get something.
“An unknown number of men pulled up in a car where the man was parked and started shooting at him,” says Koopman.
“He is in a critical but stable condition.”
The Boksburg Advertiser is awaiting a full report from the police.
Other recent murders in the area include Jade Vries (17), who was killed by two armed robbers on Princess Avenue in Delmore Gardens on October 27; and Levano Visagie (17) and Dillon Riddles (28), who were killed in the vicinity of Cosmos Street, Reiger Park, on October 31.
