Nico Henning murder trial starts today
The murder trial of businessman Nico Henning, who is accused of orchestrating the murder of his estranged wife Chanelle, starts in the Pretoria High Court today, nearly four years after her death.
Henning’s 26-year-old wife Chanelle was gunned down shortly after dropping their son off at a nursery school in Faerie Glen in Pretoria, in November 2011, Kormorant reported.
Henning was implicated in the murder by his friend and former policeman Andre Gouws, who is one of four men convicted for Chanelle’s murder.
Former Nigerian athlete Ambrose Monye was also handed a life sentence for his involvement in the murder.
Gouws told the Pretoria High Court that Henning wanted Chanelle killed so he could have custody of their son. According to Gouws, Henning asked him to gather information on Chanelle to portray her as a bad mother.
Gouws said he was later asked by Henning to arrange that Chanelle be arrested for possession of drugs. He said the plan then changed to her murder.
Henning handed himself over to police in December 2013 and appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court in January on murder and conspiracy to murder charges.
He was released on R10 million bail.
