Normandien farm murder case: duo’s bail applications denied

The judgement wrapped up three days of testimony and legal arguments.

The two accused in the murders of Glen and Vida Rafferty, Siyabonga Macu and Doctor Ngwenya will remain in prison until their next court appearance in January 2021.

On the third day of the duo’s bail application yesterday (December 9), heard in the Regional courtroom of the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court, Magistrate Gurlal delivered his judgement in the matter.

In handing down his judgement, Magistrate Gurlal was of the view that neither Macu nor Ngwenya had discharged the onus upon them, to prove exceptional circumstances for them to be granted bail for a schedule 6 offence.

On this basis and other grounds, he refused the pair bail in the matter.
