Outages rock social media

Facebook users worldwide experienced issues connecting to Facebook on the web and via mobile apps, Zululand Observer reported.

It is not yet clear what caused the outage.

While some users were reportedly able to log in, others were not able to load the login page at all.

A Facebook message read: “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can.”

Instagram acknowledged the issue saying: “We’re aware of an outage affecting Instagram and are working on a fix. Thank you for your patience”.

Hacker Group Lizard Squad’s tweet increased speculation that it may have been behind the denial-of service attack.
