Pinetown murder suspect arrested five years later

The suspect immediately left the area after the murder in 2015 and on 5 August he was arrested in the Pinetown CBD.

Pinetown detectives arrested a 27-year-old man who was sought for murder since March 2015.

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, 5 August in the Pinetown CBD.

Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, said it is alleged the suspect and the deceased (33) were drinking at an old Imperial Hotel.

“The two then had an argument over alcohol, the suspect allegedly pulled out a stick with a bolt attached to it and assaulted the victim all over his body. The victim was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries,” said Manqele.

A case of murder was opened at Pinetown police station for further investigation.

According to Manqele, the suspect immediately left the area after the murder and on 5 August detectives received intelligence about the whereabouts of the suspect and he was arrested in the Pinetown CBD.

The suspect has been charged for murder and will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court today, 7 August.
