Police hunt killers of Gauteng health inspector and wife
The couple was found dead in their home and police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
The alleged murders of a health inspector, Amos Gumede, and his wife, have sent shock waves through Vanderbijlpark.
Gumede was the Chief Environmental Health Practitioner for the Emfuleni Local Municipality.
The couple’s lifeless bodies were discovered on Friday at their home in Boipatong.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster yesterday, Gumede’s brother, Mabuza Gumede, said the family is blank.
“We don’t know what led to this gruesome incident,” he said.
“We are still waiting for the police to give feedback. We don’t know anything.”
Speaking about his younger brother, Mabuza described him as a jolly person.
“I have never heard of him fighting with anyone. He was admitted to hospital on Monday and discharged on Thursday. On Friday morning, we received calls alerting us of what had happened.
“I’m heartbroken. My brother never said anything, so we don’t have a clue. We are perplexed. He is my brother, and I’m going to miss him because he is my brother. As a family, we hope that justice will be served.”
Gumede has been described as someone who loved his job and worked diligently.

In a statement, Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said: “Police attended a complaint where, on arrival, they found a female victim lying on the floor. Another victim, a man, was found inside the house with a gunshot wound.”
According to Nevhuhulwi, one of the rooms in the house was ransacked, but there was no indication that anything was stolen.
“The circumstances that led to these gruesome murders are unknown, and investigations are underway,” she said.
Police request anyone who may have information about the incident to contact their nearest police station or Crime Stop at 08600 10111. Anonymous tip-offs can be reported on MySapsApp.
