Policeman caught stealing money (video)

Police are investigating a fingerprint expert after video footage emerged of him allegedly stealing money from a crime scene.

The constable was attending to a burglary in Pretoria North last month when he apparently sent an employee of the shop outside and allegedly stole the money, Rekord North reported.

In the video, the fingerprint expert is seen inspecting a crime scene before sending the shop employee to fetch him a cool drink. The officer then bends down, taking an undisclosed amount of cash and stashing it into a bag.

The employee returns and hands the cool drink to the constable, who then continues to dust for prints.

Police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza said disciplinary action will be taken against the constable.

“Criminal and disciplinary proceedings will, in accordance with SAPS disciplinary code, be instituted against the member,” she said.

Suspension of the 29-year-old constable, who had reportedly been with the police since 2008, has since been processed.

Last week, CCTV footage emerged showing two metro police officers allegedly taking a bribe in Westdene, Johannesburg.
