Pregnant woman held up in Centurion robbery
A three-month pregnant woman was among those held up in the Cell C shop at Mall@Redsin Centurion by five armed robbers on Saturday morning.
Orange Fox Security spokesperson Vanessa Jacobs said five men robbed the shop cellphones, airtime vouchers and other valuables just after 9am, Rekord Centurion reported.
The robbers later fled the scene in a Toyota Avanza, and as they sped off a number plate fell off the car. It was later established the number plate was a fraud.
She said a tracker unit in one of the stolen items was activated and police gave chase. The stolen stock was found abandoned in Hillbrow, Johannesburg.
“It is still unconfirmed if the vehicle had been recovered,” Jacobs said.
“The pregnant woman is an employee at the shop, but she was unharmed. She was treated for shock before her husband transported her to a nearby hospital for a check-up,” she said.
Jacobs said no shots were fired or injuries reported.
No arrests have been made.
At the time of going to print, police had not commented.
