Puppies thrown in boiling water
A dog and her 10 three-day-old puppies had to be euthanised after a woman allegedly threw them into boiling water in Middelburg, Mpumalanga.
Senior inspector Petro Oberholzer of the Middelburg SPCA confirmed a criminal case under the Animal Protection Act would be opened after a woman from Hlalamnandi dunked the dogs into boiling water.
A concerned passer-by called the SPCA after hearing the cries of the animals earlier this week, Middelburg Observer reported.
Oberholzer arrived at the scene and was shocked by what she saw.

“It was heart-breaking seeing and hearing the screaming of the burnt puppies. The mother also had burn wounds. They all had to be euthanized to stop further suffering”
The puppies reportedly had severe burn wounds on their legs and mouths while the dog suffered burn wounds on her skin.
Oberholzer said a case would be opened against the woman as soon as the vet’s report was complete.
Last month, a dog suffered third-degree burns at a dog-grooming parlour in Centurion, in Gauteng, after it was allegedly dipped in boiling water by a staffer.
Owner of the dog, Nanda Redmond, said the pet-grooming company came to fetch the dog in the morning for regular grooming.
“They called me later around 11:15am to tell me that an accident had occurred in which my dog had been burnt a little bit under his tail and his hind legs,” she said.
The parlour took the dog to a veterinary clinic in the area. Redmond said she received a call from the veterinary clinic’s management, saying the dog actually had more extensive and serious injuries.
“Its paws, hind legs, tail and stomach were burnt, and there was blood on its body,” she said.
The owner of the parlour later apologised and promised to take disciplinary action against the staff member responsible.
