Robber critically injured after failed robbery at Centurion Mall

“He was shot at least seven times by a member of the public.”

A would-be robber was in a critical condition after a failed robbery at the JDC jewellery shop in the Centurion mall on Saturday.

It was understood that a shopper inside the jewellery store fired multiple shots at the would-be robber as he entered the store with a firearm in his hand.

“The armed robber was shot at least seven times,” Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) SA spokesperson Ruan Heyns told Rekord

The would-be robber was said to have been transported to a nearby hospital for stabilisation.

“From there he’ll be transported to a government hospital,” Heyns said.

Police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller confirmed the incident.

He added their forensic teams and local detectives were busy at the scene and more information would be made available at a later stage.

In a statement, Centurion mall said: “The safety of our customers, tenants and employees is a priority and the centre management remains committed to assisting the investigations in any ways possible.
