SARS reminds trustees, provisional taxpayers of January filing deadline
SARS has urged trustees and provisional taxpayers to submit their returns by the January 19 deadline.
SARS has reminded trustees and provisional taxpayers that the deadline to submit trust and provisional tax returns is January 19, 2026.
In a statement issued this week, SARS said both ITR12T trust returns and provisional tax returns must be submitted by the deadline as part of its ongoing efforts to improve tax compliance and protect the country’s fiscus.
SARS reiterated the importance of voluntary compliance, saying it plays a key role in maintaining trust in South Africa’s tax system. Trustees are encouraged to prepare in advance by gathering all supporting documentation, verifying beneficiary information, and making use of SARS eFiling tools and online guidance to ensure accurate submissions.
The revenue service also emphasised its commitment to safeguarding taxpayer information and assisting trustees with updating banking details. Those who need to verify changes in person may visit a SARS branch for support.
Trusts with fewer than 10 beneficiaries that are not registered for eFiling may submit their returns at a SARS branch. Trustees are advised to book appointments in advance through SARS contact channels and to bring all required documents, including trust deeds and beneficiary lists, to ensure a smooth process.
SARS warned that tax compliance is mandatory and that failure to submit returns on time may result in fines and penalties.
