Silver shoals are KZN-bound as the sardine run edges closer

Sardine action is evident in Transkei and the shoals are said to be making their way north into local waters steadily, South Coast Sun reports.

KZN Sharks Board’s Acting HOD of Operations, Greg Thompson reported that to date, Sharks Board has had some reports of sardine activity in the Eastern Cape between the Haven Hotel and Hole in the Wall.
“It is still pretty quiet further north with scattered Gannets seen in some areas, but it does seem like they are feeding on mixed baitfish,” he said on Saturday, 1 June.
“There are a few South Westerly winds due in the next week, which hopefully could get the sardines moving north. At the moment it does seem like the head of the sardine movement is still a couple of weeks away from KZN, but anything is possible. We have all been surprised by these fish before.”
The sardine hotline has ceased to exist. Those interested in the whereabouts of the fish should keep an eye on social media and print editions of the Sun for updates.
