State Security minister warns GBV abusers during visit to Evander

Minister  of State Security Ayanda Dlodlo warned perpetrators of gender-based violence that their time is over.

Ms Dlodlo told this to women who gathered at Evander Gert Sibande TVET College where she was closing the annual 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children on Saturday, 12 December.

She also revealed shocking stats of women and children who were raped and killed since the country went under lockdown in March this year.

Ms Dlodlo said 256 children were raped, 235 women were also raped and 33 women and eight children were raped and murdered by the men they knew.

“The threat is real, let us protect women and children.

“Women should believe their children who claim that they had been raped,” Ms Dlodlo encouraged.

“Rapists and murderers of women and children are living among us and we know them. Some are family members, so please don’t hide them – report them to the authorities,” pleaded Ms Dlodlo.

She also visited a place of safety for the victims of gender-based violence at Charl Cilliers.
