Travel bag with dagga worth thousands found on bus

Police were conducting crime combatting patrols in George when the discovery was made.

A man (32) who travelled by bus from Gqeberha to George was arrested on Thursday morning on a charge of dealing in drugs when members of the police discovered over 5kg of dagga in his luggage.

Police Spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said Attaqua K9 members deployed in the George area were busy with crime combatting patrols when they conducted a search of a passenger bus at a petrol filling station on the N2 highway at George on Thursday morning around 01:45.

“A search of the luggage compartment led to the discovery of 5.2kg of dagga with an estimated street value of R40 000 concealed in a traveling bag. The dagga was positively linked to a passenger on board who was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the passenger boarded the bus in Gqeberha with the drugs that was destined for delivery in George.

“The suspect remains in police custody. He will appear in court once charged.”
