Two men shot dead at Durban shopping centre

A case of murder has been opened after two men were shot dead while exiting Shoprite Checkers in Montclair, Durban.

Provincial task team detective Warrant Officer Shabangu said two friends entered the Shoprite Checkers to purchase grocery items at about 3.15pm on Saturday, unaware they were being followed, Southlands Sun reported.

“After concluding their purchases and exiting the outlet, they were followed by three men. While walking towards their vehicle, shots were fired at them. The two men victims, aged 53 and 26, sustained mostly head injuries and were declared dead on the scene by paramedics,” Shabangu added.

The trio fled the scene in a white Toyota. The motive for killing remains unknown.

Anyone who has information about the incident is urged to contact Shabangu on 076-740-3091.

In a separate incident, a woman was followed home from a local shopping centre and robbed inside her complex in Magaliessig, Johannesburg.

According to Douglasdale police spokesperson Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, the woman was on her way home from a local shopping centre in April. Upon entering her complex, a white Hyundai i20 drove up behind her. Three armed suspects then got out of the vehicle.

The woman hooted, and her husband came out of the house. The couple were then robbed of jewellery they had on their person, including two wedding rings and a watch.
