Two security guards arrested
The Durban Organised Crime Unit has arrested two security guards for attempted murder.
It was alleged a 52-year-old male and his 46-year-old brother were driving their vehicle at King Shaka Road in Stanger when they were shot at by two suspects travelling in a Toyota Hilux vehicle yesterday.
Both victims had sustained gunshot wounds and had been taken to hospital for medical attention, police said.
The suspects had fled the scene after the shooting, police added.
The motive of the attack remains unknown.
The suspects, aged 36 and 38, will appear at KwaDukuza Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
The KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the members for the arrest of the suspects.
“We condemn these unnecessary attacks in the KwaDukuza area and we will do everything in our power to bring those responsible to book,” said Ngobeni.
In a separate incident, a Johannesburg security guard was arrested for accidentally shooting dead a man when a gun in his bag discharged.
The man (45) was arrested at around 7pm on Sunday at Super Bets
on the corner of Plein and King George streets.
It was alleged the security guard informed the police his firearm had been inside the bag. According to him, when he put the bag on top of the chair, it fell down and the shot went off.
The man, in his late 20s, was shot once in the upper body and was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
The security guard will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
