Two security guards killed, suspect remains on the loose
Greenwood Park police are investigating a case of murder after two Metrorail security guards were shot dead in Effingham, KwaZulu-Natal.
It is alleged a security guard supervisor had been visiting the two guards who were on duty when an argument ensued yesterday.
Police said the supervisor had allegedly shot dead both the security guards and removed a firearm from one of the victims before fleeing the scene.
The deceased, who were aged 40 and 45, had sustained several gunshot wounds to their bodies, added police.
The suspect is still being sought by police, as investigations continue.
KwaZulu-Natal commissioner Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni condemned the killings.
“Greenwood Park SAPS detectives will work around the clock to make sure that the suspect is apprehended. We appeal to the suspect to rather hand himself over and co-operate with investigators,” Ngobeni said.
In a separate incident, a security guard was shot and robbed of his firearm at a scrapyard in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, last Wednesday.
It was alleged a 24-year-old security guard was shot and robbed of his firearm by four unknown suspects.
Police said no arrest had yet been made. Cases of attempted murder and armed robbery were opened.
