Two seriously injured after car split in half on the N1
Two people were seriously injured when a car split in half after hitting a pole on Monday morning on the N1 near Allandale Road, Midrand.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said a vehicle crashed into the barriers and then slammed into a light pole causing it to split in half, Kempton Express reported.
Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the highway obstructed with accident debris and the twisted remains of the vehicle, said Botha.
After examining the two occupants, it was found they had sustained serious injuries.
Paramedics treated them on the scene before transporting them to a nearby hospital.
Botha added: “In another accident on Monday afternoon, one person was seriously injured when three vehicles collided along Modderfontein Road, Johannesburg.”
Botha said Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene, and they found the road obstructed and a minibus lying on its side.
One person sustained injuries, while all the other people escaped unharmed, added Botha.
Meanwhile, a family from Thistle Grove, Evander in Mpumalanga, died in an accident on the N17 near Springs and Devon this morning.
It was alleged two cars and a truck were involved in the accident in which six people died, Ridge Times reported.
The accident happened at around 5am, and the cause is still unclear.
Only the truck driver survived the accident.
In a separate incident, three people were killed and 17 others injured, six of them critically, when a taxi rolled on the N1 north near the Maraisburg Road off ramp in Johannesburg.
When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found a mass casualty incident.
On assessment of the scene, paramedics discovered two men and a woman had died from injuries.
It was believed the collision was caused by the taxi’s tyre bursting, causing it to roll multiple times.
