Two shot in business robbery

Investigations are underway after the manager and a customer of the Star Sports Pub at Broadway were shot and wounded during a business robbery in Centurion, Pretoria.

Police spokesperson Captain Augustine Selepe said three men entered Star Sports Pub at Broadway and ordered everyone to lie down yesterday at about 2:35am. Among all these patrons, the robbers went straight to the manager, Rekord Centurion reported.

He added the men told the manager they wanted money and demanded to be taken to the safe. The manager led the robbers to the storeroom where they stripped the safe.

“They further took a briefcase with money from the slot machines and emptied the till of one V-slot machine,” said Selepe.

The robbers then shot the manager in the waist. It was later discovered that a woman lying on the floor was also hit by a bullet. Both were taken to hospital. All the customers were robbed of their cellular phones, money and handbags,” he added.

No arrests have been made. Investigating are ongoing.

In a separate incident, a 17-year-old boy was shot and killed during a house robbery on a smallholding outside Welbekend, east of Pretoria, last month.

Police spokesperson Captain Marissa van der Merwe said the teenager had just returned home when five armed men accosted him. They went inside with him and gathered his mother and 12-year-old sister, Rekord East reported.

“The five men then looted the house while holding the boy, his mother and sister hostage. Before leaving, they shot the boy in the stomach,” added Van der Merwe.

The suspects fled scene. The vehicle they were travelling in was found abandoned in Mamelodi. Unfortunately the boy succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” said Van der Merwe.
