UPDATE: Carletonville quake felt in Centurion, Montana

The earthquake had a magnitude of 3.5.

An earthquake in Carletonville, west of Johannesburg, on Tuesday evening saw residents from parts of Centurion and Montana feeling the aftershockCenturion Rekord reports.

The quake happened at around 20:09 and had a magnitude of 3.5, according to the Council for Geoscience website.

Shortly after the earthquake, reports began flooding in on social media.

Areas, where the tremors were reportedly felt, include Zwartkop, Midstream, Lyttelton, Wierda Park, Rooihuiskraal, Valhalla and parts of Montana.

One resident said the earthquake rattled the windows of her Valhalla home.

Others reported their dogs being startled shortly before the tremors started.

In April of last year, residents in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom were awakened by an earthquake that occurred 8km south of Stilfontein.
