UPDATE: Young James continues to recover in Centurion after fall

“We are so overwhelmed by the support we have received from the community.”

James Theron continues to recover in hospital despite relapsing twice since his accident in Centurion.

The three-year-old was described by his father, Jono Theron, as “looking much better” on Sunday morning.

James had suffered a fracture at the base of his skull near his brain stem after he fell from a jungle gym on Thursday afternoon.

He was immediately admitted to the Kalafong Hospital in Atteridgeville.

“We decided to move him to Unitas Hospital because his condition appeared to be getting worse,” his father said.

“He was in the Life Med ambulance for a few minutes and then he crashed. The paramedics fought for almost an hour to get him stable enough to move him.”

James looked better on Saturday morning and he was discharged from the hospital.

“We brought him home, but later in the afternoon he got worse again and we had to rush him back to Unitas,” said Theron.

James was once again stabilised at the hospital.

“A paediatric surgeon at the hospital requested another CT scan and they told us on Sunday morning that they were happy with the results.”

The Theron family continues to experience the generosity of the community.

Child Medi Organisation has managed not only to gather the R30 000 we initially needed but also the rest of the R150 000 deposit to get James admitted to the ICU at Unitas,” said Theron.

“It is absolutely incredible. We are so overwhelmed by the support we have received from the community.

“Their phone calls, messages and well-wishes are what has been carrying us through this.”
