VIDEO: Man survives fall through roof
An air-conditioning technician fell through a seven-metre high roof and survived with only mild injuries at an automotive service centre in Bloemfontein, in the Free State.
The incident occurred two days before Doors Kleyhnans’ 40th birthday at the Swedo-Tech automotive centre, Bloemfontein Courant reported.
Kleynhans said he was working on the roof and did not see part of it consisted of fibreglass. “When I stepped on the roof, I heard it crack, but before I could get off, it gave way,” he said.
When he fell through the roof, he landed on a Volvo that was in for repairs.
The left arm of mechanic Nico van den Berg was inside the open back of the Volvo. When Kleynhans fell on the Volvo, he forced the open door of the boot onto Van den Berg’s arm, leaving a deep bruise.

Kleyhans’ fall resulted in an injury to the arm of Nico van den Berg, a deep bruise, whose arm was inside the open back of the Volvo at the time.
Kleynhans reportedly jumped up immediately after he had landed and ran out of the service centre in shock.
Other staff in the centre ran after him, trying to calm him down and determine if he had broken anything.
“I told them that I was fine and they should not worry. They kept on telling me to lie down,” Kleynhans said.
Kleynhans and Van den Berg were taken to a local hospital for X-rays, and not fractures were found.
The damaged car will be repaired by Swedo-Tech, and the cost of repairs to the Volvo’s rear window and the damaged roof will apparently amount to R51 000.
