VIDEO: Woman manhandled after ‘refusing’ arrest
Video footage has emerged showing traffic officers manhandling a woman in front of her child in Meerensee, Richards Bay in KwaZulu-Natal.
It is alleged the woman was pulled over for an alleged traffic violation and was then manhandled by officers who took her into custody in full view of her young child who was in the vehicle,Zululand Observer reported.
The City of uMhlathuze Municipality spokesperson Mdu Ncalane said: “The City is aware of the video that went viral pertaining to our traffic officials who were on duty. We can confirm that the driver was arrested after refusing arrest at Meerensee. This was after she failed to stop on the stop sign and refused to take the [traffic fine].

“She also refused to hand over the keys and resisted arrest as well as hurled derogatory remarks to our traffic official,” added Ncalane.
He said the woman was taken to the police station and charged for interfering with a traffic officer in the performance of her duties, crimen injuria, resisting arrest; and failing to stop at a stop sign. The woman reportedly sustained minor bruises during the arrest.
In another incident, video footage captured by a motorist emerged showing Ekurhuleni Metro Police officers pouncing on two women in Kempton Park, Gauteng, after they stopped them for speeding in August.

In the footage, one of the officers is seen getting out of the car and shoving one of the women in the face. Shortly afterwards, a man intervenes. It is alleged Preis was later assaulted at Kempton Park Police Station by the same female officer who threatened her daughter with a gun. Preis was reportedly left with a bruised neck.
