Titch, whose real name is Costa Tsobanoglou, was set to perform on the Smirnoff Storm Room stage between 20:45 and 21:15.

β€œThe Smirnoff Storm Room is the ultimate space for Amapiano and Afro-Tech to own. It’s time for the music genres to have a platform like this; something which supports the music and the culture. For me, it’s also about finding that freedom to create and then sharing it with people on the dance floor. I can’t wait to bring the sound,” said Titch said ahead of his performance.

The Mbombela-born and former Penryn College learner was seen performing one of his hit songs when he stumbled to the ground. He was helped back up and continued to sing, but then collapsed once more. It is believed that he was declared dead on the scene.

TJ Records posted a statement about his untimely death on his official Instagram account. It reads: “It is with deep pain that we find ourselves having to acknowledge this passing at this time. We are thankful for the emergency responders and all those present in his last hours on this earth. As a family we are faced with a difficult time as we try to make sense of what has befallen us and ask that we be afforded the time and space to gather ourselves.”

Personal life

Tsobanoglou, who stood at 1.5m tall, was the former choreographer of the Puma Angels and was the front dancer at several Pumas Currie Cup matches. He moved from Mbombela to Johannesburg eight years ago to be closer to his dance group – Freeze Frame. The group is the first group to win the Redbull Beat Battles and the championships in the same year.
