Young SA farmer could lose leg after accident in US
The 21-year-old has been working as a farmer overseas and was driving a quadbike when the accident happened.
A man from Randfontein, Adriaan Taute (21), is in hospital and is facing the possibility of having his leg amputated after an accident while working on a farm abroad.
Taute was hit by a van while crossing from one farm to another on a quadbike in Montana in the US.
The accident happened on Tuesday and the news was confirmed by family spokesperson JP De Beer, who said that Taute has been working as a farmer overseas.
Taute is the son of Gauteng Red Meat Producers Organisation chairperson Jaco Taute and Susan Taute.
Speaking to the Randfontein Herald, De Beer said Taute is in an intensive care unit and added that they are still in disbelief regarding the incident.
“We are shocked by the news that a van has crashed into him, and it seems that the consideration of amputating his leg is serious. We hope that the medical team will make a wise decision.
“This must be a very difficult time for Jaco and Susan, and we are thinking of them and sending sincere wishes for a speedy recovery for Adriaan and we wish him the best for his health and future,” said De Beer.
He added that they are trying to gather funds through a fundraising initiative that will help send Susan to Montana to be with her son during this difficult time.
De Beer appealed to people to also pray for the family and the speedy recovery of Taute.
Taute was also in the news last year, after he was shot in a farm attack while he was on his way out of his parents’ family farm. He survived the attack.
