Ballito business score top spot in iLembe Chamber’s Entrepreneur competition [WATCH]

Last week the winners of the 11th local staging of the competition were announced to an excited crowd at CMH Ford Ballito showroom.

The wildly successful homegrown iLembe Chamber Entrepreneur programme and competition is to be rolled out in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

iLembe Chamber CEO Cobus Oelofse said the chamber will be overseeing the expanded programme, to be sponsored by Airports Company South Africa.

“This is a significant honour for the chamber to have its business accelerator programme recognised in such a way.”

Celebrating their first place with a victory dance were Ballito’s Nutrivita team, headed up by Maxi-Lee Machado.

Ilembe Chamber CEO Cobus Oelofse and Mandeni Mayor Thabani Mdlalose.

The company produce and supply a range of nutrient-dense plant-based foods beverages, supplements and superfoods.

Judges were impressed with the high quality of the product and the strong leadership and extensive job creation and skills development potential.

Second place was bagged by Have A Seat Stylish Furniture Manufacturers owned by Mandisa Mwandla from Mandeni.

Mwandla overcame many obstacles to start her furniture manufacturing business 5 years ago.

Ayanda Zubane of Hungry People Kitchen with Ilembe Chamber CEO Cobus Oelofse.

She is now upskilling and employing 20 people. Judges believe the business is poised for significant growth, even beyond KZN.

Proudly in third was Nomalinge Poultry Farming of Nkobongo. Judges commented that necessity had revealed a natural entrepreneur in Mdudusi Daniso, while promoting healthy and organic farming in his community.

Two new prizes were awarded this year.

The Commendation Prize was given to Treat Attack owned by Dodi Sathianarain from Stanger and Phila Zulu Foods, led by Phila Zulu from Shakaville was named the Social Entrepreneur 2021.

Zulu started by making peanut butter to help child-headed families and orphans.

He thanked the Courier for an article on his business in January that had brought a huge growth in sales.

The Entrepreneur programme is supported by Enterprise iLembe, Airports Company South Africa (KSIA), The North Coast Courier, Siza Water and ENGIE Peakers Operations.
