About North Coast Courier
The North Coast Courier has been the leader in local news for the past 35 years.
Founded in 1985 by Bruce and Rose Stephenson, the North Coast Courier is the largest community newspaper in its area of distribution in KZN from Umdloti to the Tugela River.
In order to start the newspaper Bruce, already a seasoned journalist, gave up the assurance of a monthly salary and sold his prized MGB sports car.
The newspaper has stood the test of time, and has kept up its fine reputation for trust, reliability and keeping the Dolphin Coast informed and entertained ever since.
The North Coast Courier is published by Wordsmiths (Pty) Ltd in partnership with Caxton Community Newspapers, serving the fast-growing Dolphin Coast region north of Durban. With a distribution of 40 000 copies a week and averaging 44 pages, the Courier is the medium of choice for retail, classified and legal advertising.
Based in Ballito, the publishing house has grown to a stable of proudly professional products. The three publications are the North Coast Courier, the Get It – Ballito -Umhlanga monthly magazine and the bi-annual Fast Finder glossy business directory.
Rose started the North Coast Courier Orphan Fund in July 2003 in order to create a platform for businesses and the wider community to help orphans and vulnerable children in our area. The Courier is able to give the community peace of mind by ensuring the funds reach the people it is intended for.
In November 2012 Bruce and Rose were joined by their son in law Pieter Naudé and only daughter, Lesley.
The Courier is constantly evolving along with its community and now incorporates a modern mix of mobile, digital and print media.
