Beauty Review: Time to be a queen

For my first review I visited the Dermalogica Concept store in the Ballito Junction

Having worked in the marketing industry for over 10 years, Laurette Batstone joined The North Coast Courier as Advertising Manager to continue her biggest passion in seeing businesses reach their full potential.

Her other passion is health, wellness and beauty and in 2010 she represented South Africa in the Mrs World pageant.

For my first review I visited the Dermalogica Concept store in the Ballito Junction.

You feel important the minute you set foot into the store.

They have a wonderfully lit beauty bar that essentially has all you could need while they are doing their famous Face Mapping (Dermalogica’s unique skin analysis) which provides insight into your skin’s past and present, and allows the prescription of a targeted home care regime for a healthy skin future (this is a free service).

What made such practical sense to me was exactly that, a targeted home care regime.

After addressing my skin problems with therapist Tabi Mngoma, she advised on small changes I could simply make at home. Then I enjoyed the Dermalogica core treatment – R620 for 90 mins by Tabi.

Don’t miss Laurette Batstone’s beauty reviews every month.

These skin treatments form the foundation of Dermalogica’s services and are customised by the skin care therapist, based on your Face Mapping skin analysis.

The room where the treatments are done needs a special mention of its own – it is probably the most soothing room I have ever experienced when having any beauty treatment, and it made it just that – a treat! I felt like I was the most important person to my therapist, from the soft blue lighting to the hair net, fluffy blankets and gown.

Tabi was well informed on her products. She could tell me what the active ingredient was in each one and how it would feel on the skin.

I have to add that the lovely aroma of each product really enriched the experience. The cherry on top was the added neck massage while my mask was on – so relaxing. I recommend this treatment and salon to anyone who wants to kick-start a great skin regime or to boost the current status of their skin.

I love how they give you a plan and they are all about ‘gifting’ their clients, so I was lucky to walk out with a stunning home treatment pack of five products to get me going in my new routine.

It was so tailor made that I immediately thought how easy it would be to infuse the products into my entire family of four’s routine. I have since had at least four different women come up to me and tell me my skin is glowing and looking so good, all asking ‘what did I do?’.

Rating: 4*

Strengths: Knowledgeable staff, beautiful interior and an amazing product that continues to work on your skin even after the treatment. I feel regular visits for a skin treatment will be part of my skin regime now.

Weaknesses: The prices are a bit steep but I was happy with the result and felt I received value for money. The treatments are also quite intense as these would only need to be done every 6-8 weeks in my opinion.

Product of the week

Product: Stress Positive eye lift from Dermalogica Nothing can sabotage an almost flawless face or give away your age like under eye bags and dark circles. Yes we use makeup to temporarily camouflage darkness and discoloration, but fine lines, sagging and puffiness are another story!

I’ve called this product review ‘Blessed to be stressed’ as I would never have experienced this treat if I wasn’t! I have always felt the creases around my eyes not only gave away my age but made me look even older that I am.

After only a week of applying at night, this eye treatment has come to the rescue, my eyes do not feel or look dehydrated but the thing I love most about the Stress Positive eye lift is the applicator.

It is like a little treat every night when I get to put my eye cream on.

The silver metal applicator is so smooth and soothing to my skin, I literally go on a quick ‘spa’ treatment while applying this.

A huge stand out for me, who would have thought that the application of yet another product to your skin could be so luxurious.

Stand Outs:

  • Product packaging.
  • Eye cream applicator, no mess no fuss and a real treat to apply.

Weak Points:
