Ashton Congratulations

In a short space of time (in the life of a school), Ashton International College has become a “Beacon on the Dolphin Coast” – which is an extract from their College Prayer. Over the last ten years they have painted the town red, and have excelled on the academic, sport and cultural fronts on the highest level.
The school opened in 2010 with 437 students, unique in its offer of both the IEB (Independent Examinations Board) and Cambridge Assessment International Examinations. Today 1380 students are in the Ashton family. Many projects have been undertaken in ten years, all having contributed to making Ashton what it is today. Here are some of the more noteworthy ones:
– In 2011 the doors of the Ashlings Early Learning Centre opened, now home to Ashlings ranging from two to three year olds through to Grade R.
– The construction of the Grace Hall began in 2013, and in March 2014 this magnificent state-of-the art hall was officially opened. The talent of the students has been highlighted with five full musical productions, namely Grease, Oliver, The Wizard of Oz, Annie and the amazing production in 2018 of Aladdin. In 2015 the unique Grace Wing opened for children on the Autism spectrum, and to date six Gracelings have carouseled back into mainstream.
– In 2016, four years of negotiation ended and Ashton finally acquired the ‘promised land’ on the opposite side of the M4. This new Sports Campus now boasts an amazing FIH approved water-based Rhino Turf; two rugby fields, a cricket oval, five tennis courts and eight cricket nets. All these facilities as well as the swimming pool are all under floodlights and can be utilised day and night. There was welcome relief to the traffic congestion at the main campus as 100 parking bays and an additional drop-and-go zone were added. One year later, Ashton are reaping the benefits of these sports facilities. 70 Regional and 81 provincial awards were made, while seven students were awarded Honours for participation on the National Front competing under the SA flag.
– In 2018 the construction of the Legacy Hall Indoor Arena and multi-purpose hall began, and with only the multi-purpose floor to be completed, the Legacy Hall Indoor Arena will be officially opened at the end of August. Back to back with this hall will be a 140-seater theatre with tiered seating, music rooms and a dance studio.
– The new Consumer Studies Centre was completed in December 2018 for the introduction of the new IEB subject. Ashton is the only local school offering this subject. Another exciting addition is the introduction of Dance as an IEB subject.
Ashton continues to grow from strength to strength, and it is anyone’s guess as to what they will achieve in the future!
