Ballito’s legal eagle Andy Horton returns to private practice
The highly experienced attorney is now practicing at Laurie C Smith Inc in Stanger.
After 33 years of service in local government, former Ilembe municipality legal adviser Andrew Horton has returned to full time private practice.
Known for his sharp wit and excellent command of Zulu, the Ballito based legal eagle is now practicing at Laurie C Smith Inc in Stanger.
The highly experienced attorney, who has a passion for helping others, started his political career as a member of the Ballito Town Board in 1986.
From there he was elected deputy mayor in 1992 and was mayor for three years thereafter.
Being a jack of all trades and somewhat of a master in them all, Horton also served in various developmental boards in Ilembe and KwaDukuza which included the North Coast Regional Development Association, the Chief Albert Luthuli Educational and Development Trust and the Groutville Health Committee Trust.
Ilembe mayor Sduduzo Gumede said the lawyer had been a pioneer in his field.
“He played a huge role in local government, particularly in KwaDukuza and Ilembe. He is a perfect example of a servant of the people.”
Although he has retired from the municipality, Horton said he would continue helping with legal advice where necessary, while building up his new client base at his practice.
Horton specialises in all local government issues, the administration of estates, commercial contracts, civil litigation including debt collection, and as part of his CSI work offers a service whereby he draws up free wills for those in need.
