Ballito baker makes buttercream cakes and cupcakes to die for

Although lockdown has put a severe dent in her activities, Yuveshka is spending her time honing and perfecting her recipes, as well as learning as much as she can about digital marketing.

What was once a little girl’s favourite pastime aimed at pleasing her parents, has now turned into a business venture.

In spite of a BCom Honours degree, Yuveshka Reddy was unemployed.

But with a firm understanding of marketing, she decided to change that fact by building on a childhood passion.

Today, Yuveshka runs a successful small-scale bakery from home and hopes to soon open a store in Ballito.

Some of the delicious treats made by Yuveshka Reddy.

“It started with something as simple as baking cupcakes for my family,” says the 24 year old bubbly baking enthusiast, whose buttercream cupcakes are much in demand.

Determined not to become a burden to her parents, Yuveshka said when word began to spread beyond her home, she knew she had the perfect opportunity to turn her life around.

“I never thought it would be baking but, before I knew it I had my first large order. I owe so many thanks to my parents, partner and sister for their support.”

A passionate foodie and with her feet firmly placed in the small-scale baking industry, her day job is the perfect complement.

“I am now a quantitative market researcher, with a really strong hobby in researching the baking world.”

She hit on the name “Creamier by the Dozen” for her business and with orders coming in thick and fast, Yuveshka now rarely has a chocolate or vanilla icing-free day.

Although lockdown has put a severe dent in her activities, Yuveshka is spending her time honing and perfecting her recipes, as well as learning as much as she can about digital marketing.

“I now have an almost fully established clientele in Ballito and surrounds. My buttercream and gourmet cakes, and little treats like brownies and mini desserts, have become a real hit,” says Yuveshka.

She would also like to share a message to the unemployed youth of today: “Never lose faith and don’t allow life to get the better of you.”
