Viral voice note: Shaka’s Head woman claims she was almost kidnapped

The kidnapping claims are causing major panic among parents and are spreading like wildfire.

Numerous unsubstantiated reports of child abduction attempts at different schools and townships across KwaDukuza have caused great alarm over the past few days.

Both Umhlai and KwaDukuza police confirmed that no cases of kidnapping or attempted kidnapping have been reported.

However, a panicked voice note by a Shaka’s Head resident was a possible cause for concern.

The Courier tracked down the author of the voice note that has gone viral locally.

In the Zulu voice note the Shaka’s Head resident, who asked not to be named, claims that she and her grandchild were nearly kidnapped by a man who was a driving silver-grey vehicle with a GP registration on Thursday morning.

“I was on my way to work and a guy stopped and offered us a lift.

“He said he was going near the Shaka’s Head Community Hall, but I then realised that he did not know how to get there because he drove past the hall numerous times.

“I began to feel very worried so I started to protest and he let us out the vehicle,” said the forty-year-old woman, who claims she had spoken to an Umhlali cop about the incident but was yet to make an official statement.

Umhlali SAPS spokesperson captain Vinny Pillay urged her to go to the station and open a case so the matter could be investigated.

He also confirmed that claims of a kidnapping at RA Padachee Primary in Shaka’s Head were false.
