Taxi violence strikes Mandeni again

The threat of violence continues to hang over the taxi rank.

Gunfire and a burning taxi set Mandeni taxi rank alight this evening as violence within the taxi association flared up again.

Three weeks ago the rank was plunged into chaos when a number of vehicles were set alight – reportedly due to an argument between different taxi security companies.

No injuries was reported tonight, said paramedics.

“All taxi security have left the rank. Rural Metro fire is currently dealing with the burning taxi,” said Dylan Meyrick of the IPSS Security Solutions.

It is suspected that the tension within the association is due to extortion at the taxi rank.
