Robbers target shopping centre in Salt Rock
Police believe the culprits were part of an organised criminal gang or syndicate.

Police are searching for a gang involved in the burglary of two businesses at a local shopping centre on Tuesday night.
Umhlali SAPS spokesperson Captain Vinny Pillay said the break-in happened at Tiffany’s Shopping Centre in Salt Rock.
According to reports, the liquor store and pharmacy became the latest target of a six-man gang who broke into the stores, making off with undisclosed amounts in liquor and high-end goods and electronics.
In the process, an alarm was activated and the thieves fled in their vehicle.
This is not the first time this year or last that brazen robberies like this have occurred at shopping centres in the region.
At the beginning of June, eight armed men held up a security guard at gunpoint in the early hours of the morning and the liquor store at the Lifestyle centre in Ballito stealing thousands of rands in liquor.
The Ballito Junction Mall was also targeted last year in May when a five-man gang robbed a jewellery store of cash, wristwatches and jewellery before fleeing the crime scene in their getaway vehicle.
According to IPSS Electronic Security’s CEO Frank Labidi, footage from the security firm’s cameras show the gang’s vehicle initially trying to gain access into the new Salt Rock City Shopping Centre.
However, the robbers turned around as they were not able enter the shopping centre due to the security measures the centre management recently implemented.
