Sheffield robbery suspects arrested!

During the arrest the police recovered illegal firearms, a knife and several items linked to the Tinley Manor and Sheffield house robberies.

A successful co-ordinated sting operation led to the arrest of eight suspects linked to a syndicate believed to have committed several armed robberies in the area last Thursday.

Two suspects were arrested in Etete and further investigation from the special operations units led to the arrest of another six men in Nkobongo, Shayamoya and Driefontein.

The alleged robbers have been linked to a spate of house robberies which have rocked the area over the past few months, including the recent armed robberies at Sheffield Lane and Tinley Manor.

The sting operation involved the concerted efforts of Umhlali SAPS, Umhlali K9 Dog Unit, police detectives and security companies.

According to police reports intelligence linked to a home robbery case in Sheffield two weeks ago provided officers with intel which led them to their hideout in Etete.

During the arrest the police recovered illegal firearms, a knife and several items linked to the Tinley Manor and Sheffield house robberies.

Police are investigating whether the men could be linked to more robberies locally.

The men will appear in Stanger court facing charges of armed robbery, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of illegal firearms.
