Armed robbery at Westbrook leads to shootout with police
When police arrived at the house, the robbers started to shoot at them and they returned fire.

Four armed criminals broke into a Westbrook home at around 11pm last night while a family was asleep.
According to Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) spokesperson Nazir Sadack, the criminals assaulted the son and demanded that he reveal the whereabouts of his parents.
The mother, realising what was happening, apparently managed to make a phone call to a neighbor who immediately alerted SAPS and CERT.

When police arrived at the house, the robbers allegedly began shooting at them and they returned fire.
The criminals managed to escape over a garden wall.
According to Col. Ngwane at SAPS Tongaat, a case of house robbery and attempted murder has been opened.
