Robbed at gunpoint in Chaka’s Rock

"He asked me for directions to a church. When I told him there was no such place he jumped out and pointed a gun at me, and I gave him my phone."

A man driving a black BMW allegedly robbed a pedestrian at gunpoint along the main road outside Simbithi Estate on Sunday, December 15.

The Shaka’s Head resident was robbed of his phone while walking home after work in the estate.

Qopheni Sibanda (32) said a dark Indian man driving a black BMW stopped alongside him.

“He asked me for directions to a church. When I told him there was no such place he jumped out and pointed a gun at me, and I gave him my phone,” said Sibanda.

The man then sped off down the road towards Chaka’s Rock.

A case was opened at the Umhlali SAPS.

The public are urged to remain vigilant on the roads and be wary of their surroundings while walking and driving, and to always stop in well-lit public places before meeting unknown people.
