Stabbings at Ballito beachfront cause alarm

Three people were stabbed in the car park on Monday night.

Ballito residents are worried about their safety at the beachfront after two stabbings at the Hawkins car park.

On New Year’s Day one man was stabbed in the car park and on Monday night three people were stabbed after a fight broke out.

Ballito resident Jack Abrahams, together with a holidaymaker from the UK, helped the three men with first aid before paramedics arrived.

“Two of the men had been stabbed in their shoulders and the other man was stabbed six times, on his face, back and buttocks,” said Abrahams.

Umhlali police spokesperson captain Vinny Pillay said it was unclear what had caused the fight.

“Police are looking for six people who were allegedly involved in the fight,” said Pillay.

Acting chairperson of the Ballito CPF and chairperson of the Ballito Neighbourhood Watch, Gary Frances, said they were extremely concerned and were planning to have a meeting with the authorities to discuss the matter.

Ward six councilor Tammy Colley said she believed that a plan needed to be made to prevent this from happening again.

“The issue of people drinking at car parks also needs to be addressed because it’s also becoming a problem in Ballito,” said Colley.
