Hijacking leads cops to hotbed of stolen vehicles at Maphumulo

The KwaDukuza crime prevention unit went to Maphumulo, assisting a car tracking company looking for the vehicle.

Five stolen vehicles and numerous stripped and semi-stripped vehicles were discovered in a workshop in Maphumulo last Thursday following a car theft and hijacking last week.

A Toyota Stallion was stolen in Sundumbili on January 14 and a KwaDukuza crime prevention officer was hijacked in KwaDukuza on January 15.

His Isuzu double-cab and firearm was taken.

KwaDukuza municipality spokesperson, Sipho Mkhize said the KwaDukuza crime prevention unit went to Maphumulo, assisting a car tracking company looking for the vehicle.

“When they arrived, they managed to recover the two vehicles and a Toyota Hilux Legend 40 hard body single-cab that was stolen in Umbilo and an Isuzu single-cab which was stolen in Boksburg North.

“They also recovered many stripped and semi-stripped vehicles and lots of stolen parts were found and seized,” said Mkhize.

One man was arrested and the stolen firearm was recovered.
