Shots fired in Valentine’s Day argument at Thompson’s Bay

Apparently about five taxis dropped off school pupils at the beach who were carrying alcohol.

A teenager escaped unharmed when he was allegedly shot at in a fight over a girl at Thompson’s Bay car park in Ballito this afternoon.

According to an eye witness, a group of school boys were fighting over a girl and one of them was carrying a gun.

The eye witness speculated that the teens were aged around 16.

“He came running from the beach and when he was about to jump into a taxi, one of the boys (that is suspected to be his friend) pulled the gun from him and started firing at the other boy.

“He pulled the trigger twice but he missed.”

The witness, a KwaDukuza resident who is a regular at the beach, said the boy who had been shot at jumped a fence into one of the nearby properties.

Once the others had left the boy came out of hiding and left the area.

“All we know is that they are from Stanger,” said the man, who asked to not to be named.

Apparently about five taxis dropped off school pupils who were carrying alcohol.

The eye witness said KwaDukuza Crime Prevention had confiscated some alcohol and chased them away, but the kids came back once the police had left.

Safety at local beaches has been a burning issue since the festive season, and local beach-goers said they were shocked to hear gunfire at a normally peaceful beach.

On New Year’s Day, one man was stabbed in the Hawkins Car Park area and in a separate incident a few days later, three men were stabbed by a group of teenagers while they were relaxing at the beach.

Up to 12 stabbings allegedly took place over the festive season but only three were reported to the police.
