Eleven lockdown arrests – Tongaat SAPS
"We are risking our lives to save yours, so do your bit and obey the law."
Tongaat SAPS has taken a no-nonsense approach to the Covid-19 lockdown, holding roving roadblocks and ensuring compliance with government regulations 24 hours a day.
Col. Santha Moodley has led her team to manage their precinct, having made 11 arrests from the start of the lockdown until now.
“Non-compliance and physical distancing is taken very seriously,” said Moodley.
“Trading of liquor, overloading taxis and non-confinement have been matters of concern and we have a zero-tolerance stand against this.”
All people arrested have since been released on bail of between R2000 and R5000.
A shortage of masks has plagued every public facility but this has not stopped the Tongaat police station from keeping each member regularly sanitized, gloved and masked where possible.
“We are pleading for the public to take this outbreak seriously and please stay at home,” said Moodley.
“We are risking our lives to save yours, so do your bit and obey the law.”
