Tongaat man murdered in fight to protect family from robbers

The man's wife reportedly locked herself and her 20-month-old baby in a bedroom while he attempted to fight off the robbers.

Tongaat Saps is appealing to the public for information which could lead to the arrest of two men sought for the robbery and murder of a 38-year-old Tongaat resident this morning around 4.30am.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the 38-year-old Watsonia Drive resident was seriously injured while attempting to fight off the two robbers.

It is understood that the man’s wife had locked herself and her 20-month-old baby in one of the bedrooms while he attempted to fight off the robbers.

The husband, in the scuffle, was stabbed in the head.

Members of RUSA found the victim’s lifeless body on the upstairs balcony.

The deceased’s wife had been stabbed in the arm.

She declined any additional medical attention.

“We are appealing to anyone who might have information about the suspects to contact the local police or Crime Stop at 08600 10111,” said Saps spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala.

Charges of house robbery and murder are being investigated by the Tongaat Saps.
