A sleepy Saturday afternoon turned sour for Cara Smith of Salt Rock, when two ladies stole jewellery from her house.
On November 7, Cara Smith was relaxing while her 5-year-old daughter was playing with a friend, when two women knocked on her door.
“They seemed friendly and well dressed, I had no reason to feel suspicious,” said Smith.
They were asking if there was a BnB close by that they could stay at, and made polite conversation for a few minutes.
“After I had directed them to the closest place to stay, the one lady asked if she could go to the bathroom as she had been driving all day.”
The second lady remained at the door and kept talking as a way to distract Smith, she said.
“It had been a few minutes and I became suspicious so I went to see if all was okay.
“When I went inside I noticed the lady coming out of my bedroom with her dress up, clearly having put something in her undergarments.”
The ladies left quickly without any violence, and Smith did not retaliate given her daughter was nearby.

“I let them go because there were another 3 people in the car, and I did not want anything to get violent with the children around.”
In just 7 minutes, around R3 000 in jewellery had been taken by the women.
“It’s just sad that we cannot be neighbourly anymore in this country.
“You have to always be on guard when something like this can just happen out of the blue.”
Umhlali Saps are investigating.
