Woman murdered in Tongaat clothing store

The store where the shooting took place is within sight of the Tongaat police station.

A woman was murdered in broad daylight inside a store near Tongaat police station on the town’s main road on Friday afternoon.

The 40-year-old woman was killed by a bullet to the chest in a clothing store on Gopalall Hurbans Road, said provincial police spokesperson colonel Thembeka Mbele.

Reaction Unit spokesperson Prem Balram said they suspected the Ethiopian national was the victim of a robbery.

“The woman was found inside a clothing store lying on the floor.

“She had sustained a gunshot wound to her chest and died at the scene.

“According to witnesses, two men were seen fleeing from the shop shortly after the shooting.”

Saps could not confirm whether the woman was the shopkeeper or a customer.
