A woman was hijacked and her vehicle used as a getaway car when a Ballito Junction jewellery store was robbed this morning.
The robbers – armed with rifles- held the staff of Cherry Design Jewellery at gunpoint before breaking the store’s windows and making off with an undisclosed amount of jewellery, said police.
The gang fled south onto the M4 with police and security companies in pursuit.
Umhlali police spokesperson Vinny Pillay said the gang’s 2 getaway cars, a silver Audi and a white BMW, had been found on the Frazer’s dirt road near Zimbali.
The robbers had escaped into the sugarcane on foot.

Owner of the store, Gary Cherry, confirmed that none of his staff had been injured, only his pocket.
“It will take me more than five days to figure out the whole mess,” said Cherry, who did not yet know the value of the jewellery stolen.
This is the second robbery of a North Coast jewellery store in 4 months.
On October 26 last year five armed men cleaned-out the Natal Diamonds jewellery store at the New Salt Rock Centre in a brazen daylight robbery.
