He was shot multiple times by gunmen who were allegedly armed with high calibre rifles

A taxi owner from Isiqalokuhle Taxi Association was shot and killed in Tongaat on Wednesday.

Police said the 43-year-old was seated in his car on Gopalall Hurbans Drive, near the taxi rank, when he came under fire from unknown assailants.

He received multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and was declared dead at the scene of the shooting.

“A murder case was opened at Tongaat police station and the motive for the killing is unknown,” said Captain Nqobile Gwala.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesperson Prem Balram said the shooters were driving a maroon VW Polo.

“The gunmen were allegedly armed with high calibre rifles,” said Balram.
