Minenhle Khumalo’s life cut short in chilling Shaka’s Head kidnapping-murder
Her father, Lubabalo Madikane, expressed his anguish and disbelief, calling for swift justice.
The tragic murder and potential rape of six-year-old Minenhle Khumalo in Shaka’s Head have sent shockwaves throughout KwaDukuza.
The lifeless body of the young girl was discovered on Sunday by a passerby in the bushes near the open parking area between Shaka’s Head township and the N2 highway.
Minenhle had been missing for a week after her mother, Nompumelelo, left her locked inside their home while she helped fight a fire that had broken out in a nearby informal settlement on the night of Saturday, July 8.
When she returned, she found a window open, and her daughter had vanished.
Lubabalo Madikane, Minenhle’s father, shared the heart-wrenching experience with the Courier, saying it would take time before he could forget the gruesome image of his daughter’s body.
He said his daughter had suffered severe injuries.
“It is difficult for me to believe that a fellow human being could commit such a horrendous act against my innocent child. I can only believe that this was the work of some kind of creature, not a human being,” said Madikane, who was in tears.
The 37-year-old father hoped that law enforcement would quickly arrest the perpetrator responsible for the murder, so the family may find some closure.
In his grief-stricken state, he expressed gratitude to everyone who helped in the search efforts for his daughter.
Umhlali police spokesperson captain Vinny Pillay said they were investigating a case of murder.
