A woman who accepted a ride in Ballito ended up in a horrifying ordeal when three men allegedly gang-raped her in Durban.
According to KwaDukuza police spokesperson, constable Siphesihle Myeni, the incident occurred when the victim, a Malende (Groutville) resident, left Ballito on Friday, January 5.
It is alleged that a grey Etios with a GP number plate stopped and the four occupants offered to give her a lift home.
However, instead of heading towards her destination, the car turned towards Durban as they reached the off-ramp.
When the woman questioned this, the occupants assured her they would drop her off on their way back.
They travelled through South Beach in Durban, where one of the four men disembarked. They then continued the journey towards Pinetown.
Upon reaching the men’s apartment, the victim was directed to a bed “to sleep”, but to her shock she was allegedly subjected to a horrifying gang rape by the three men.
The ordeal did not end there. The next morning, they reportedly compelled her to accompany them to town to exchange her cell phone for money.
They kept her in captivity until Thursday, January 11, the day they learned she would receive her salary. They took her money before letting her go.
The woman was assisted by a compassionate resident who offered her accommodation for the night.
Myeni said police are investigating a case of rape.
