A cash-in-transit robber was shot and killed in a shoot-out with police in Mandeni last night.

This after a gang of robbers ambushed a cash delivery vehicle on the  P415 after security guards collected money from a shopping centre.

The robbers opened fire on the delivery truck and robbed the security guards of their firearms before making off with an undisclosed amount of money.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said after the shoot-out one of the robbers was found dead and in possession of a rifle.

He said police are searching for the remaining assailants.
