Cops find stolen firearms in carboot, five arrested

The men will appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Five men were arrested in Mandeni for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition on Friday.

The arrests occurred during a Vehicle Check Point (VCP) operation along P459, where police stopped a white Toyota Avanza with five male occupants.

Upon searching the vehicle, police found five pistols and several rounds of ammunition.

Notably, two of the firearms had their serial numbers removed, raising suspicions about their origin and use.

Initial investigations revealed that one firearm had previously belonged to a deceased licensed owner.

Another firearm was reported stolen in Ntuzuma in November 2020, while a third was reported stolen from Sandton, Gauteng, in June 2021.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the men, aged between 23 and 31, are set to appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

They face charges of possession of illegal firearms and ammunition and possession of suspected stolen firearms.
